Olneya tesota

Endemic to the Sonoran Desert Region. It is found in southern Arizona, California and Sonora Mexico.   The wood is very hard, dense, stable and matures at 2000 years, more or less.  It is heavy and will not float in water.  Olneya tesota is mostly cut for fuelwood, charcoal and carvings.   The heartwood is typically dark to light brown and takes a brilliant finish when sanded and polished.
